Graduation was just around the corner and truth be told, it scared the crap out of him. The past few months had been tenuous game he had been playing with getting along with anyone really. Thus far he had kept out of trouble, kept his pants on and manage to reconcile with the majority of the female population. However, despite the small percentage that she was in that number, she still mattered the most in comparison to all of them. Walking back from his quick patrol he purposefully kept his rounds in the dungeons and assigned the other Prefects to other areas of the castle, Ana in particular he had kept on one of the floors and with a non-slytherin prefect so that he could hope to catch her alone on her way back to the common room. Naturally, he could have waited inside of the common room but it would have been too easy for her to avoid him entirely versus him just blocking the entrance from the cold and desolate caverns of their home. Jack leaned against the wall, almost in the shadow in the shadows against the candle light and torches on the walls. He crossed his arms and tried to ignore the fact that his heart was racing in his chest. Over and over again he had run the conversation in his head with Brig, how she had laid it all out for him and then he had taken those puzzle pieces that he hadn't been able to piece together and for a picture. It wasn't anything one-hundred percent, but it was all he had to go with.
If anything he could say what he had to say and then she could respond and then it could go many ways and that was what made him nervous. There was no way he was going to graduate and leave without some kind of resolution to this, she was far too important in his life to leave it just like that and regret filling his brain whenever her name crossed his mind. Suddenly he heard footsteps approaching from down the hall and he tried to remain relaxed and seem nonchalant about his presence just outside of the common room. However, the figure soon revealed itself to be a Prefect to whom he nodded and they continued on their way. Jack let out a deep exhale, and almost immediately held his breath as he heard more footsteps. The figure that approached appeared to be female but as she walked closer he saw she was too tall and saw it was a student that had just slipped through the grips of the student leadership's watch. This was her lucky night because he had other business to attend to and he gave her a look and nodded toward the common room, sparing her a detention or even loss of house points for that matter. Jack paced around a little and loosened his tie from choking around his neck. What was he going to saw? First, he could try to apologize but that would not seem sincere. His main plan was to try and get her to listen to him and really listen and not just walk away just like every time he head run into her in the past couple of months and avoided him altogether. Jack had accepted she was very angry and he could understand why but not understand what she was feeling which is why he had to get her to stop running from him because he was done running from this.
Again he heard the footsteps and saw the figure, it didn't even take a clear look at her for him to know and his heart to do a somersault in his chest. She approached but was not looking forward as if she was walking on autopilot. Jack put his hands in his pockets from where his arms were crossed and took a couple of steps forward before she could enter the common room to make his presence known. Hey Ana. He spoke, just looking at her made him miss her and they say that distance made the heart grow fonder and Brig's words only seemed to reinforce that. It made him feel like a complete jackass about that night and some new sense of wonder at this new revelation that he had been blind to that his best friend had feelings for him. Did he? Jack didn't know because even his feelings for his ex-girlfriend Chloe were complicated and really there wasn't a sure way to describe what one felt like when they wanted to be with someone. It wasn't lust, he knew that but he just wanted her there with him just like old times. Can we please talk? Did he look pitiful enough to be granted an audience? You know, i'm graduating soon and for all I know i'll never see you again. A true statement and if he didn't give it a shot to repair this then he would regret that.
