His eyes were wide open but that wasn’t unusual at all. Which was probably why it shouldn’t have been two in the morning. Lys preferred not to blame himself for being awake but rather the time. It was why he was sitting there just shooting sparks in the air of the Common Room. Everyone was asleep or otherwise had just decided not to attempt sneaking out given that he was there in the room sprawled across the chair. Lys liked being sprawled across this chair for whatever reason though. Sure he had adjusted his position a few hundred times over the past 6 hours and had started messing about with his wand as soon as everyone had left the room but he just didn’t feel like going out tonight. For whatever reason the Common Room just felt like the place to be tonight or at least that was what his gut told him. It wasn’t often that Lys got these feelings but when he did he always went with his gut. It had yet to steer him wrong.
Granted that could have just been the old Scamander charm. His innate ability to turn anything into a good time, for himself at least, even when thinks looked bleak and boring. In a way he was a super hero. At least that’s what he liked to think. “Yeah that’s it. Super Lys to the rescue of anyone who’s a bloody bore.” Lys forced a frown as his wand shot out a particularly unattractive shade of green sparks. This was stupid. He needed to just stop talking to himself. Get it out of his bloody ‘ead. Besides he was supposed to be talking to other people. It wasn’t his fault that Lores stupid trial of separation bullshit was messing about with his head. How could he be held accountable for something someone else was doing to him?
Still it was happening and Lys had to face facts his brother, for probably at least the duration of the school year, was sealing him out. That meant he had to make it to May without talking to Lores, who truthfully was the only person who knew almost every bit of him. Well his sister knew him pretty well too but she was too concerned with trying to keep the peace between him and his twin brother to honestly be interested in actually just talking to him. He was like a bull in a china shop when he opened his mouth and Lysander knew it. It was one of the things he liked about himself. After all there was only one him and if he didn’t like who he was why wouldn’t he just change it. That was what people didn’t realize. Not everyone needed fixing. Not in his opinion anyway.
Not that there weren’t some right prats out there but if at the end of the day they were happy about being prats what was the big deal? As long as they weren’t up and about offing people left and right what’d he care? Being sad was dumb and he wasn’t about to self-inflict such a thing on himself. He wanted to be happy and being who he was made him happy. His smile broaden as he once more shot sparks up in the air but this time they turned his favorite shade of turquoise. Life really couldn’t get much better than that. Tonight was odd though. Lys had his usual energy. He was ready to go run a bloody marathon but highly doubted such a thing was offered at this time of night. It wasn’t even that tonight, for once in his life, he just felt like being lazy.
Even as a boy Lys had never been rather fond of the idea of sleeping in or lying around. It was why he spent his nights out gallivanting about the castle doing as he pleased and mercilessly talking his way out of any detentions by just not shutting up. After all no one could hand out punishments if they couldn’t talk or got distracted by talking. More often than not they threw their hands up in frustration and just screamed at him to go back to his Common Room just so they could be rid of him. Not that he hadn’t served his fair share of detentions but just that it was very hard to get him into one.
Shooting yellow sparks now Lys wondered just how long he could do this and be content. This should be torture but it just wasn’t. Maybe the rest of the world had something when they talked about Lazy Sundays? Lysander didn’t completely see it but the outline was there plain enough for why it may have been enjoyable? Lys readjusted his position and shrugged once more. It really wasn’t terribly important. He doubted that he’d ever be in this position again or at least that he wouldn’t be in it anytime soon. Letting out a smile sigh Lys continued to shoot sparks and marvel at just how ambigious a length of time, “anytime soon,” was because quite frankly he couldn’t figure out just why people would want to use such an vague phrase when referring something that was awfully precise. tagged!OPEN! lyrics Say Anything, Yellow Cat/Red Cat. notes Open to anyone! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Eva huffed rather loudly, to the point where she was surprised she didn’t wake up her roommates, as she laid in her bed staring at the ceiling. She had returned to the common room a few hours ago and had tried to go to bed a couple of hours ago, but has since been staring at her celling and she had no reason for it. She hated it when she just couldn’t sleep, as she usually attested that to something playing on her mind. At current, she couldn’t think of anything that might be doing so, so it bothered her that she just couldn’t fall asleep like everyone else in the form. She hated feeling restless, especially when she was trying to sleep, and she was sure that she’d be dragging ass all day tomorrow if she didn’t get some sleep now.
She turned her head to look at the small clock that rested on her bedside table to see what time it read. 2 AM? Was it really that time? Had she really been laying there for the last couple of hours without getting up or trying to so something else that may make her tired. She just wanted to go to sleep, or else she knew she’d be a bitch on wheels the next day. She knew she wouldn’t be for the whole day, but she definitely would be for at least the first hour or so. As nice of a girl she was on a regular basis, the mornings after a sleepless night tended to make her a bit snappier and agitated with people. Naturally, anyone that really knew her knew that it was because she didn’t sleep well the night before, and not because she was purposely trying to be mean.
Eva finally decided that she wasn’t going to lay in her bed staring at the ceiling any longer. Since she wasn’t going to be getting any sleep anytime soon, she might as well use her time wisely. She had a bit of reading to do for one of her classes, though it wasn’t due for a couple of days, and figured that now was as good a time as any to get it done. Grabbing her transfiguration book, she got up from her bed and made her way out of her dormitory with the common room as her destination spot. The moment she entered the room, she saw yellow sparks in the air and her eyes immediately sought out Lysander as he sat in his usual chair. “Dare I ask what you’re doing up at this hour, and shooting off sparks for that matter?” she asked as she neared him and took it upon herself to climb into his lap. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -merrrr, this was crappy, but the next one will be better. promise.

Lys thought, and it should be noted that like most of his thoughts it was only for a moment, about sprinting out of the chair and just running. Straight through the door, up the stairs, out on to the grounds, down into Hogsmeade, and out into the wild. Lys had these notions often. He loved the idea of just running away and leaving it all behind. His parent’s wouldn’t hold it against him if he did and his brother, given his current behavior would probably love nothing more than to be rid of Lys. That was probably a bit harsh but still it felt that way. Letting out a sigh Lys continued to shoot sparks into the air and wondered just where he would run to. This was a constant thought in his mind. He always wondered where he would bolt off to once he had graduated Hogwarts. He wouldn’t join his parents in the field; no he would strike out on his own.
With the thoughts of running away fresh in Lys mind though he found them dashed by someone appearing on his lap. Lys of course was immediately much more excited about his life now that he had someone to talk to, he was just simple like that. It was the way he liked things to be. Realizing it was a friend only caused Lys to beam wider. He knew Eva and he liked her. She was after all a doll and nice to him no matter what other people thought. Everyone else was not always so kind. Lys knew he was the butt of a lot of jokes but he just didn’t really care. Tilting his head Eva looked into Eva’s eyes and simply shrugged aimlessly and he placed his wand behind his ear and let the words pour out of his mouth.
“Well I suppose that’s a dual question Eva dear. I mean on one hand,” Lys said holding up his right hand to about his ear, “I’m sitting here in this chair and shooting sparks at the ceiling like I’m some kind of bloody fire cracker because everyone else is asleep and I can’t manage that and laying in bed is just a bore,” now raising his left hand Lys continued his tirade. “While on the other hand in my head I’m thinking about running away or rather what I’ll do after I graduate or both because I suppose depending on how I go about all this they could be the exact same thing.” Lys nodded with a certainty that he doubted most people afforded themselves in conversations such as these. He knew what he was talking about even if he seemed crazy and he tapped Eva on the tip of her nose with his finger as he continued to rattle on. “So I guess the real question is would you care to accompany me? I was thinking about Patagonia to visit the river where I was born or maybe just somewhere nice in Australia. Not much in the way of plants there but the animals are lovely. Did you know they had an Emu War their once?”
Lys knew he sounded insane. It was his trademark. It was how he got out of doing things in general. Just sound crazy and talk a lot and no one would want to put up with you for more than five minutes. Not that he was complaining about it at all. He liked the way he was the effect it seemed to have on people was just like some odd added bonus. It was like getting two toys in your box of cereal instead of two. Yeah the two toys were utter shit but that didn’t mean that it didn’t make the person who got them lucky or even all that mad that they got them. That’s what Lys felt like his odd talents were. Just two toys that anyone else would have chucked at first sight but he clung on to with all his life. It was really for the best.
Smiling still Lys leaned his face in close to Eva’s and then pulled it back quickly as he continued his verbose vomit, “ I think the real question here Eva dear is just what are youuuuu doing? I mean you’re supposed to be the well-behaved one, remember? I’m the one who can’t keep his nose clean. I didn’t ruin any well laid plans to sneak out did I? I’m terribly sorry if I did,” Lys stopped talking for a moment and crossed his heart and held his hand up all the while wearing his usually broad smile, “Swear not to tell anyone if you are, it’ll be our little secret as long as you take me along with you next time on your night time gallivanting.” Lysander had no intention of telling anyone if she was he just wanted someone to trapeze about the corridors with sometime soon. He had such simple needs after all?
A large part of him of course hoped she wasn’t leaving. Lysander wanted someone to talk to. One could of course point out that this was always the case but what did that matter? Lysander liked talking to people, so what? Eva was fun and kind of interesting, what was so wrong with conversing with her.? Nothing was wrong with it at all. Lysander was just happy that someone fun had come down and not some stuffy git. Nothing was worse than someone who thought they were interesting but really weren’t. They’d blather on and on about this thing or that he could really care less about or contribute to. That was probably the problem Lys knew. It wasn’t that he actually found anyone boring he just knew that some people prohibited him from talking when that was all he wanted to do. Still no matter what Eva was interesting to Lysander. It was an endearing quality in his eyes and that was all he needed. Was to spot one endearing quality and he was good to ramble on for hours about this or that. He was still a child in some ways. This was one of them. tagged!EVA! lyrics Say Anything, Yellow Cat/Red Cat. notes And off goes a Scamander word count 1,028

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -As Eva sat in Lysander's lap, she made herself comfortable. It wasn’t uncommon for her to do this to him, or even some others she was close with, and, at this hour, it seemed like a good idea. Maybe she’d get some sleep right here in the chair with him. she giggled when he started to answer her question, watching him raise one of his hands and then the other as he told her what he was doing up at this hour. “But you are a firecracker, love,” she said with a wink of her eye, her lips curving into a devious grin. She knew that he may not understand what she meant, since she was more than aware of his obliviousness when it came to flirting and the like. She didn’t mind though, it made it all the more fun if you ask her.
Her eyebrows rose when he then told her that he was thinking about running away and his post Hogwarts life. She could appreciate that though. She had no idea what she was going to do after school, something that her parents asked her when she had been home this past Christmas. They were torn between her getting a job in the Muggle world or the magical world, but they did tell her that they wanted her to be happy in whatever she did. That was the problem though. She had no idea what she wanted to do yet, even though she knew she had to think of something by the time she left school next year. Such a decision to make though, and at such a young age. How would she know what she wanted to do for the rest of her life at the age of eighteen?
“Accompany you? Like, running away from Hogwarts accompany you?” she asked, making sure she understood him correctly. “Or did you mean this summer going on a vacation?” he asked as she tilted her head to look up at him. She was sure many people would take that as some sort of ‘run away with me’ gesture, but Eva knew better, especially coming from Lysander. As close as they were, she knew he’d never ask such a question and mean it in that way. A pity too, because he was adorable and she didn’t doubt that he’d make some girl very happy someday… once you got past his oddities. But those, Eva thought, were what made him as adorable as he was. She knew most people had a hard time getting past them though; she wasn’t one of those people. She smiled when he tapped her nose, and blinked once before readjusting her eyes to focus on him.
She didn’t move her face back when Lys moved his closer to hers, if only because she knew he’d move his back moments after. She felt her lips curling into yet another devious smile when he asked her what she was doing up at this hour, and went on to say that she was the well-behaved one, and that he was the one who couldn’t keep his nose clean. She laughed softly when he asked her if he’d foiled any attempt by her to sneak out of the common room, and apologized for doing so. Before she could answer him though, he told her that he wouldn’t tell anyone and that he’d keep her secret as long as she took him with her next time. “No, not tonight, sadly,” she said with a shake of her head, allowing her hair to swish about her face.
Now that she thought about it though, since he’d brought it up, the idea seemed like it was a good idea. “I just couldn’t sleep, like you, and thought maybe a change of scenery would help the sleep take over,” she said as she leaned her head on his chest. “Although, now that you mention it, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea,” she said as she looked back up at him once more. “But not tonight, I think. It’s too late to plan anything now, though we can always make such plans for tomorrow night, or the next,” she said as she crawled her fingers up his chest and neck to his face, softly flicking his nose as she smirked at him. “What do ya say about that? Up game for tomorrow night? It’ll be our first date,” she said, though not meaning it like that. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Lysander quirked a bro as he listened to Eva as she sat on his lap. Shrugging Lys couldn’t help but kind of like the idea of being a firework. ”I wish. I mean that would be kind of lame in some ways. You aren’t around that long but then again would it feel long to you if you were a firework and you could feel? I don’t know personally but I mean it does have its upsides. If I could at anytime explode into one big flash of colored light I wouldn’t even care if I could make it into the sky or not I’d just be excited that I could do it and pull myself back together,” Lys paused and considered it all for a moment, “Who knows maybe I’ll try it out sometime, see how it goes?” Lys wished that something like that was possible. It’d be another super power he could have. Although he’d probably just abuse the hell out of it.
There was no probably about it though. If Lys could just explode into random colors he’d be doing it as often as he could. In the middle of classes even. He really did not care if it interrupted anyone or anything and why should he? Not like anyone really cared about what he did anyway. Everyone thought he was a bit off and quite frankly he liked it that way. It made it easier to maneuver. Besides as long as you weren’t off in the sense that you were running around trying to kill people what did it matter if you were. Those people weren’t really off center at all they were just out of their minds. Lys wasn’t crazy, he knew full well what he was doing one hundred percent of the time and he didn’t do anything unless he absolutely meant to.
That’s what people didn’t get about Lysander. Sure he was a goof but that was because he liked being one. Being serious was such a bore so what was the point? There was none at all ever what so ever. Lysander laughed, not at her but at the whole situation. “Keep up with me now. I mean it could be a vacation but then again some moves are just permanent vacations depending on the move. It really is all dependent on one’s state of mind in the situation. Some people go on vacations as a simple short break or as an escape where as other people run hopping from place to place to do nothing more than bask in the glory that is each location. You don’t really know what you’re doing until you get to somewhere else and decide whether to stay or run from that point especially if you’re goal was to change scenery in general because not every place is what you would normally expect it to be.”
Lysander knew that his words might not make sense to Eva. It didn’t bother him too much though. He was rather used to having people not get what he was trying to say at any given moment. It wasn’t his intention to do this it just seemed to be the way things happened with Lys. Lysander spoke and rambled whatever was jumbling about in his brain and sometimes it worked while other times it just didn’t. Lysander never knew which one it was until the people responded, or in some cases didn’t, to what he had said. The reactions of course always varied. Lysander listened to the words she was saying and tilted his head listening intently. God only knew when someone else would appear that he could talk to.
“Well that’s a bummer but on the plus side that means I get you all to myself to talk to,” Lysander smiled but as he did he pushed her hair out of her face and back behind her ears. It wasn’t a romantic gesture but he did it more so because he liked seeing people’s faces and admittedly she did have quite a nice one. Lysander nodded in understanding at her comment about her sleep and saw it more as someone handing him a baton at a relay race to run off with, “Sleep is too elusive and quite frankly I find it to be more something that sneaks up on you. You think you’re fine one moment and then the next you’re yawning, curling up into a ball in your bed or next to the fire, and then bam you’re asleep.” Lysander made a clapping noise when he said bam but then frowned at the flourish he had put on his hand movements. “Sorry about that I didn’t do that too close to your face did I?” Pausing for a moment he examined her forehead and her eyeballs to make sure that he hadn’t somehow jarred something loose.
Lysander perked up almost immediately at her mention of a next time. The way she had phrased it mattered little to him as he could hardly focus on that at a time like this. “Okay then but no plans, plans aren’t fun. Plan to go out yes but where it leads from there we just sort of wing it. I find that always works the best for me. I mean plans just seem to get you in trouble. It’s why I always play it by ear.“ Lysander continued to beam at the mere notion of a night out about the castle. He loved just roaming about and finding a place that he had never seen before or wanted to explore. It didn’t matter if it was by himself or with someone else. He just liked doing it. Looking into Eva’s eyes he continued to prattle on like a child, “I mean if you want we can have some plans but they need to be secret. After all ever event needs secret plans but yes tomorrow we’ll do it tomorrow as soon as everyone else is asleep or at least we though everyone else was asleep.” tagged!EVA! lyrics Say Anything, Yellow Cat/Red Cat. notes And off goes a Scamander word count 1,004

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Eva couldn’t help but smile at Lysander when he started to go on about being a firecracker and bursting into different colors all over the place. That had been nowhere near what she meant, but she supposed that was what she got for saying such things to someone so oblivious. That didn’t stop her from finding amusement in his words and she slowly shook her head at him as she sat there in his lap. “Well, that’s not exactly what I meant, but I would love to see you do that,” she said after he told her that he’d have to give it a go sometime, for fun. “Besides, that might be just a little bit impossible,” she said with a playful grin.
She sat there and listened to him as he explained what he meant about going away a little more in depth. She knew he was right, about some moves being more permanent than others, but she wasn’t sure she’d be able to just walk away from her life right now, especially when she still had a year and a half left at Hogwarts. She wasn’t sure what he was trying to say, and if that meant he was planning to run away from Hogwarts soon. She sure hoped now, since they were friends and she would surely miss him. “Well, promise me that you won’t go on any of those long-term or permanent vacations until after we’re out of here. I’d hate to lose you,” she said with a slight pout to her lips.
She couldn’t help but smile at him when he told her that, while it was sad indeed that she wasn’t sneaking out, he had her all to himself to talk to. He brushed some of her loose hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear, and smiling at her. “Too right, because I am quite comfortable right here,” she said with a cheeky grin. She nodded her head when he spoke of how sleep could either hit you at any given time, or be as elusive as possible when one wanted it to happen. She leaned her head back slightly when he clapped his hands together, and she shook her head at him when he asked if he had been too close to her face. “You’re fine,” she assured him.
She grinned when he agreed to sneak out with her another night, and nodded her head when he added that no plans made for a better adventure. “No, playing it by ear is completely okay with me,” she told him as she ran her fingers through her hair, causing some of her hair to fall in front of her face. “The most our plans will consist of is us meeting here at, oh, say, eleven o’clock or so, and then we can take it from there?” she said to him, her words coming out mostly like a question instead of a statement. She then wondered what the rest of this current evening would have in store for them. “Now… what to do now? Should we attempt to fall asleep, or stay up longer?” she asked with a smirk. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -we can do another thread after this one ends of their adventure the next night
