- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It had been a couple days back that he actually asked Eva to the Valentines ball. Zayne did enjoy the schools events, and getting involved with social activities. It had been a bit since he actually had stopped and asked Eva what had been going on in her life. Of course he knew she was very capable of taking care of herself, yet this didn't stop him from worrying. It was just something he did. Zayne wouldn't question her past a point, she was older enough to take care of herself, but she had been acting a bit weird as of recently. Who knew what was going through her mind half the time, he wished he knew. He had told Eva to meet him at the punch bowl, and sure enough he'd meet here there, for an amazing night.
At first Zayne really had to debate if he wanted to go to the ball alone. It would have been easier and he could avoid conflict and jealousy amongst the female population. Zayne looked himself over in the mirror, he looked quite snazzy to say the least. He loved how appealing fancy clothes could add to his appearance. He fidgeted with his hair for quite some time. Unsure if he should leave it up or down. Times like these were when he was grateful to have a large list of female companions. He'd grab one in the basement hall, on his way up to the dance. A smirk placed on his lips he decided how to spice up the night.
Zayne went into his trunk pulling out a large bottle of Red Currant Rum it would certainly make things more interesting. The boy grabbed his two flasks and divided the bottle between the two of them careful not to spill any on his dress robes. He capped them and then slide a flask into either side of his inner pockets of his suit jacket. Zayne finished off the rest of the bottle looking to the clock. It was about time to head to the Great hall. He hid the empty bottle in his trunk and placed a mint in his mouth making his way down to the Great hall. "Hi Zayne", "Looking good Zayne," "Wow Zayne, you look dashing." the ladies would compliment as he just gave little nods of approval. This time he wouldn't flirt back, he had enough on his plate he didn't want to bite off more then he could chew. Zayne saw one of his fellow Hufflepuffs and pulled her aside asking about his hair. Down, of course he should have known. Quickly he showed gratitude and made his way to the ground level.
Now standing in the Great entrance his dark eyes caught sight of the lights and he confidently strut into the Great hall. Zayne had some small conversation starters amongst friends as he drank in the night. The decorations were beautiful, everything was so prefect as his brown eyes locked with Eva. So perfect he thought with a smile as he walked around the room making his way behind his good friend, whom was standing by the punch bowl. He nudged her lightly, trying not to startle her. When she turned around he grinned looking over her. Man did he feel lucky, to have a beautiful date. Zayne knew they were only friends but he could compliment perfection when he saw it. "Wow, Eva you look amazing." He stated taking her hand in his as he lifted his arm up higher so he could spin her around and get a good full, glance at the girl. "I'm sorry I'm a little late, you know the whole hair thing, and I had to make sure I didn't forget.." He rambled reaching into his jacket pulling out the red rose corsage he had got her. Zayne was a gentleman, and he took her wrist and placed the flowed decoration around it. Them both being muggleborns, would understand the tradition.
Zayne grabbed a cup of punch and took a sip seeing it was already mixed with something. However it wasn't strong enough. "Needs a kick." Zayne whispered turning his back to the crowd and crouching down pouring some rum into the juice. Then he secured the flask back in his robes and stood up taking a sip. "You look kinda tense, loosen up Eva." Zayne offered draining half the mixer. Then he reached for another cup of punch and sneakily added some liquor into the cup and passed it off to his friend, the night was young and he wanted to embrace it. "Lets be spontaneous and reckless, and live while we're young." Zayne suggested hoping she'd feed into his peer pressure and have fun with him. Zayne enjoyed fun, he knew Eva would comply with him and enjoy the night, experiencing some complete reckless fun.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -The night of the Valentine's Day masquerade ball had come and Eva was more than ready for it. She had been contemplating even going at all since she had so much on her mind between Jack and school and her prefect duties. Besides, it was a dance for lovers, and she wasn’t sure that she would feel comfortable at such a dance because she wasn’t with anyone. Eva had never been much of a relationship person, and anyone that knew her was more than aware of that. That had been the reason why she had initially denied Jack months ago.
He had asked her if they could take their secret friends with benefits relationship to a higher level, and become exclusive and public about the whole thing. That had been a lot for her in many respects and she wasn’t ready for it, though she did know that she felt something strong for Jack. She knew that she wanted to be close to him, and that she missed spending time with him, but she wasn’t sure she would be able to handle a relationship with him, or him one with her. It was too confusing for her and it only reinforced her reasons for why she’s stayed away from them.
But how could she say no to Zayne? He had asked her a few days ago and the idea of attending with her best friend sounded very appealing. She was sure she’d have more fun with him than probably anyone else and that was one of her driving forces for saying yes in the first place. He had told her to meet him there, down at the punch bowl, and she agreed. When the night of the dance came, Eva took time getting herself ready. While she wasn’t trying to impress anyone, she wanted to look good for Zayne. He was special enough to her to make the effort.
Dressed in her carefully chosen red dress with knee-high stockings and matching red shoes, Eva was ready to go. She grabbed her black shawl that matched the color of her stockings and left her dormitory. She hadn’t seen Zayne during her walk between her common room and where the dance was being held, so she thought he would be there already. He wasn’t, but that didn’t make her upset. She wandered over to the punch bowl to wait for him, saying her hellos and grinning at the cat calls she got as she did so. This was going to be a fun night.
As she stood there waiting, Eva got herself a glass of punch and immediately tasted a slight hint of something more than just juice in the cup. She wasn’t sure who had spiked the refreshments, but she was glad for it. She hadn’t thought to bring anything herself, but that was because she wasn’t much of a drinker. She didn’t like the idea of her inhibitions and thoughts to be altered by other substances, though that didn’t mean she was a prissy girl when it came to such things. She could party with the best of them, though she generally did so sober and she was more than okay with that.
As she had finished her third cup of punch, she felt someone nudge her and she turned around to find Zayne standing there looking very handsome. “Hey handsome,” she said with a grin before he complimented her. “Thank you,” she said as he took her hand and turned her around so he could take in her entire appearance. “I hope you like it,” he said with a wide grin. “No, it’s fine. And it looks great,” she told him as he apologized for making her wait because of his hair. “And don’t worry. I wouldn’t ditch you because you made me drink some punch by myself,” she said playfully.
She smiled when he pulled out a red rose corsage from his inner pocket and then took her wrist to put it on her. “Oh, it’s beautiful,” she said to him, noting that it matched her dress almost perfectly, “thank you.” She was sure most people around them would not understand the gesture, but it was something Muggles did when they went to dances such as these. Eva has never had the pleasure of experiencing it before now, and she was glad that she would at least have this opportunity. The fact that he had thought of it made her feel even happier than the small bit of alcohol she’s consumed so far had.
He had then grabbed some punch and sipped from it. She smirked when she barely heard him say that it needed more of a kick, knowing that it already had one, and then watched as he turned away from the crowd. He reached into his inner pocket for a small flask, which she assumed had alcohol in it, and added some of the liquid to the cup he had taken. She watched as he then drank about half of the cup before looking at her and telling her that she needed to loosen up a bit because she looked tense. “Do I now?” she asked with a soft laugh.
He then grabbed another cup of punch and filled it, but didn’t hand it to her until he sneakily added some of the liquor in his flask to it. She took the cup from him as he told her that they needed to be spontaneous and reckless, and to live their lives while they were still young. “Dare I ask what you have in mind?” she asked as she lifted the cup to her lips. It tasted much better and she drank about half her cup right then and there. “I must warn you. I’m not much of a drinker, so you’ll have to keep an eye on me,” she told him with a playful smirk. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -she is looking gorgeous wearing this with matching red shoes

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The lit up room brought him a good vibe, Zayne glanced around seeing many students he knew, dancing. The boy wasn't just yet at that point where he felt the need to dance. Although it was a ball the occasion was more along the lines of making memories, and friendships. Tonight would certainly be interesting, however he attention was on Eva whom seemed to dull everyone else in the room with her shine. Così Bella, as she would be referred to in his own language. The way that red dressed hugged her in all the right places had him a little nervous to comment more on her appearance. They were best friends, wouldn't it be weird for him to speak to her as if they were different. Zayne was always respectful of women, especially his friends. He didn't want her to feel awkward. If the circumstances were different, he'd be attracted to her.
Their friend ship started many years back, and soon enough they were there to even out one another's sanity. As of just recently, Zayne hadn't known what was going on with her. The two had some catching up to do. When she greeted him, and spoke more on her appearance he smirked. "Of course, I like it, but then again you always look beautiful. Tonight is just another one of those occasions." Zayne explained with his signature, pearly smirk. As she explained it was fine he was a tad bit late, he nodded. His hair was very important to him and she knew this, "Thanks, didn't take much effort." Zayne added taking a sip of his punch. Zayne wondered if the two would be hanging out all night, he wouldn't ask. The boy knew when he was drinking, he'd have to go elsewhere and create some kind of argument with his ex-girlfriend. He was over her, yet he liked to be challenged by a women every now and again. Sometimes it was fun just to argue for the sake of arguing.
After giving her the corsage he smirked. "Glad you like it, I know it's kind of cheesy, but when the night is through you'll have a memory." Zayne explained. He charmed the flower to never die, or lose it's color. Zayne took another sip of his punch, eying the room. He could feel the heat of the moment setting in. Or it might have just been the rum. Either way he felt warm, liked it even. It had just seemed she had something on her mind when he showed up, nothing bad. Yet he didn't need an excuse to have her drink with him, the two had done so before. The late nights in the common room, cuddling by the fire, just talking about anything and everything they could, stained his mind. Eva and Zayne would always be close, yet in a platonic way. Zayne never wanted anything to get in between their friendship, like jealousy or drama so he strayed away from igniting more. Though on occasions the two would shamelessly flirt with one another. When two people were attractive, it was imminent.
Handing off her drink he caught her words and smirked. "Well I don't have anything in mind quite yet, however that doesn't mean in moments from now, I could have the greatest idea in the world, Bella." Zayne explained, using his Italian charm with a pet name. Zayne rarely called girls nicknames in Italian, he feared they would never leave him alone if that were the case. He just did special things for Eva, and explained as he went. The boy would be surprised if she didn't know half of his native language by now. As Eva warned him she didn't drink and he'd have to keep an eye on her he nodded. "Of course, just don't disappear on me." He added, a hit of protectiveness in his voice. Zayne would never forgive himself if something bad happened to his best friend while, she was drinking with him. The boy took a large drink of his punch and looked over to Eva. "So I haven't really gotten to spend time with you, what are you up to these days?" Zayne asked looking down into her dark eyes. Zayne had just been wondering why they hadn't hung out for a while. Perhaps she had a different agenda, or something was troubling her. If that were the case he'd want to help to the best of his ability. For now he'd just have to see what she replied with.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Eva couldn’t help blush slightly when Zayne told her that he liked her dress, and that she always looked beautiful. “Well, I’m glad I was able to please your eyes once again,” said with a wink of her eye. Eva wasn’t naïve enough to think that she wasn’t a good looking girl, nor did she ever try to act as such just so that other people would tell her that she was beautiful. She didn’t see the need or point for such things, and she also didn’t think herself conceited for being that way; there was a difference between being arrogant and being confident, and Eva was confident. However, she would never start trying to say that she was the most beautiful girl at Hogwarts. That was the furthest from the truth, she knew, and beauty was perceived differently by everyone.
He seemed to like her comment about his hair and even told her that it hadn’t taken him much of an effort to make it look the way it did. “Are you surprised that I doubt that?” she asked with a grin. She knew better than just about everyone that Zayne was obsessed with his hair. Truthfully, he reminded her of a character on an old Muggle television show that her parents used to watch called Full House – he was Uncle Jesse who was totally obsessed with his hair – and it often made her giggle at the thought. Naturally, as a Muggleborn as well, he might know what show she was talking about, though it would have to be because his parents watched it or talked about it, since it would be too old of a show for them to watch on their own.
“Not at all,” she assured him when he told her that the corsage he’d given her was cheesy, “it’s lovely,” she said with a soft smile. “It matches my dress almost perfectly,” she said as she held her wrist with the corsage up against her dress. They were very close in color, probably only off by a shade or two. She had to give him credit for that, especially since he had no idea what color she’d be wearing for the evening. She figured he picked red because it was a Valentine's dance. She nodded when he told her that she’d have a memory after the night was over, though she was a bit curious as to what he meant by that. She then decided to cast a preservation charm on it later so that it never wilted into nothing, and that she’d have it as red as it was right now month slater.
Her raised eyebrows lowered and her lips took on a smirk when he admitted that he didn’t have anything planned quite yet for the two best friends to do that would be considered reckless and spontaneous, but she said nothing about it as she sipped her cup. She noticed that he used one of his rare Italian terms of endearment on her, which only made her smirk turn into a smile. She knew he didn’t often grace a woman with such niceties, which meant that she was special. And she better be; as his best friend, she should get the things most didn’t get. “I’m sure, since you usually do,” she said in response to his comment about possibly having a great idea. “Though I can’t tell if I am excited or nervous to hear it when it finally does come,” she said as she stuck her tongue out at him playfully.
She laughed when he told her not to disappear on him after he agreed to keep an eye on her since she was drinking. “And risk losing your company to another girl? Never,” she said with a wink of her eye before she sipped from her cup again. “But, no, seriously; you know I don’t drink that often, or at least not compared to most of the people here at Hogwarts anyway; I just don’t want to do anything stupid, you know?” she said to him. That pretty much meant that she would do something she normally wouldn’t do because the alcohol would enable her to do it. She noted the protectiveness in his tone and she couldn’t help but feel a tug at her tummy as she thought about how well he’d be able to protect her, and keep an eye on her. It would be interesting to see, that much was certain.
Eva couldn’t help but shift her weight from one foot to the other when Zayne asked her how she’d been lately because he hasn’t spent a whole lot of time with her. She was sure this was his nonchalant way of prying into her life, or at least the things he doesn’t think he knows about her. Had he heard something about her and Jack, or her and Albus? She was sure not, especially since she and Albus had promised not to tell anyone about that night. She doubted there was any call for someone to tell him about Jack, especially since, as far as Eva was concerned right now, there was nothing to tell. She hasn’t spoken with Jack since that evening they came face to face while doing their rounds, and she doubted he’d be going all about talking about whatever was or wasn’t happening between them.
“I’m all right,” she said with a shrug of her shoulders before bringing her cup to her lips once more. “Just have some stuff on my mind,” she told him. She didn’t think she wanted to tell him about Jack just yet. There wasn’t much to tell at the moment and she was sure the dance was the last place to bring it up. “My mum messaged me the other day and asked me what plans I had for when I got out of school, even though I still have another year after this one,” she told him. It wasn’t really a lie, since her mother had in fact asked her that, but the message was really a verbal conversation they had when she’d been home for the holidays. “I’ve been thinking about what I want to do when I get out of school and, well, I have no bloody idea,” she told him.
She hated lying to Zayne, even if it wasn’t a complete lie. She just didn’t want to start that conversation at the dance and possibly ruin the rest o the night. She then sipped her drink once more, finishing it and then placed the cup down on the table beside them. “So, are we going to be standing here drinking all night, or do you intend to ask me to dance at least once?” she asked as she looked him up and down. She didn’t get all dolled up just to stand there drinking punch with a kick all night long. She could have stayed in her dorm if that was the case. The tempo of the music was alternating between fast and slow, and it had just turned slow. “Or do you have a preference to slow or fast music?” she asked with a playful grin. The slower the tempo, the closer they had to dance. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -she is looking gorgeous wearing this with matching red shoes
