The upcoming Sadie Hawkins dance was anything but exciting for Lysander. It was a girls-ask-guys sort of occasion, which was of course awkward enough in its own right. At a regular dance, Lysander would have felt perfectly fine about going stag, but at a Sadie Hawkins dance he felt as if he would be looked down on if he went stag—it was supposed to be a couples thing, and if he went alone he'd look as if he couldn't get a date.
But what was almost worse, Lysander thought, was how he'd feel if a girl did ask him out. It wasn't completely out of the realm of possibility. He was no James Potter, but he was an okay bloke. He wasn't a pariah by any means.
If someone asked Lysander out, he wouldn't know what to do. Should he say yes to save himself the embarrassment of showing up alone, or should he say know to save…whomever's…feelings, knowing as he did that their date could never go anywhere?
He'd taken to hiding out in the library in the hopes of avoiding the situation altogether with. If no one could find him, no one could ask him out. He would, of course, still have to deal with the embarrassment of showing up to the dance alone… but maybe he'd fake sick that day.
Or maybe he wouldn't.
Lys sighed, running a hand through his hair and turning to a random page in his Transfiguration text. Theoretically, he should be working on an essay on inanimate to animate transfiguration theory, but he couldn't concentrate. It was too quiet or something.

Where did Aiden go when he wanted to hide? The Library, it was literally a last resort or to some a first because nobody would have honestly expected him to hang out here. Those students that did linger were caught up in their studies, writing essays and furiously flipping through pages for the answers and not taking into account at all the other figures around them. Aiden stuck his hands in his pockets and slipped in behind a group of Ravenclaw students so that the Librarian wouldn't take notice to his presence there. It wasn't as if he was hiding from anyone in particular but he was looking for some peace and quiet to calm his mind and maybe even find a lonely corner and take a nap. Even the Slytherin Common Room was too crowded for his liking and all this talk of the upcoming dance was quite frankly starting to annoy him. Aiden wasn't afraid of being asked, he didn't even know if he wanted to go and it only brought him a sense of loneliness to be honest because he knew if some brave soul asked him he wouldn't be able to reciprocate feelings for them because he didn't like to deal with emotions. Then again if no one asked him then he felt slightly rejected and it only added to his allure as that bad boy nobody could touch.
Walking in between the aisles of books and tables he stopped and looked around, if you didn't know you would think he was lost but really he was just surveying his surroundings for an appropriate location to just chill out. However, he heard a sigh and turned around quickly actually startled by the ghost-like presence of another student. There was a lanky build and a mass of blonde hair and he recognized the kid, his last name was known and so was his affiliation with the Potters and all them, another one branded by the infamy of his name. Aiden, however, had more noticed him because of that blonde hair and soft face. Having a preference in both males and females really gave him the pick of the litter and he didn't deny it to himself when he noticed a cute boy, however he always made the assumption of their heterosexuality, but didn't mean he couldn't talk to them. Scamander, right? The boy was not that much younger than him, only a year and he remembered him from Quidditch before he was so unceremoniously thrown off the team by Malfoy, but what could he say he liked a good competition bu so did his temper.

Lysander looked up when he heard his surname pronounced on a less-than-familiar tongue. He recognized the boy who'd spoken it as Aiden Vaisey from Slytherin house. The older boy was attractive in a sort of dark, sullen way—not that Lysander would ever say as much to anyone. A couple of his closest friends knew that he was gay, but even with them he wasn't super comfortable talking about guys he was actually looking at. Not that he was looking at Vaisey. He barely even knew Vaisey. But Lys wasn't blind, either.
He swallowed, hard, and forced himself to speak in a normal voice, matching the older boy's tone. "Hey, Vaisey. Yeah, it's Scamander. Lysander Scamander."
He always felt a bit awkward saying his full name. He liked his first name and he liked his surname, but said together it sounded like something out of a Dr. Seuss book. He wondered if other people thought that when they heard his name, or if it was just him because he'd had to say it so many times by now.
"What are you up to?" Lysander asked Vaisey, putting himself back into the present moment. He doubted very much that Vaisey was here, like Lys, just to avoid getting asked to the dance. But then, if he was doing something really important, he wouldn't have taken the time to stop and chat.
Actually, on its own that was a bit weird. Lysander and Vaisey hadn't ever really hung out. On a bet, Lys wouldn't have even been sure that Vaisey knew his name. He wondered if Vaisey needed a favor of some sort—someone to interview for a school project, maybe.

Lysander seemed surprised at Aiden speaking, was there a lot on this boy's mind just as there was on Aiden's as well? In that case they were in good company and Aiden was surprised with whom he could bond with lately and maybe some people were just worth a chance. There was something about this boy that was interesting, how shy and quiet he was because Aiden was very much the quiet type himself but in a different sense because he was viewed in a much different light. To be honest, if he hadn't played Quidditch with Scamander then he probably would not have give him a second glance, however those eyes did catch his attention. Aiden was a sucker for pretty eyes and this boy was no exception. He was glad that the first name was clarified as there was another twin wandering about, but they were in different houses which helped and he wondered what made this one so different from his brother if he seemed just as studious.
Studying, of course. What else would I be doing in the Library? Also hiding from the Prefects and such. The staff had not seen him enter the Library and therefore would not have the knowledge that he was hiding secluded in here versus his normal whereabouts of the rest of the castle or even outside. Sometimes he wished that he had been brave enough to make friends with the forbidden forest so that he could hide in there but he didn't feel like being trampled by centaurs or mauled by any creatures for that matter. The Library would have to do for now. He supposed that if he got lucky enough he could convince the younger boy to write an essay that was due in Potions, but then again he would probably just write it all very quickly the night or morning it was due as he had always done to average marks. A gift to anger his much more studious colleagues and friends, but nothing he would stress over.
Thinking about something? You look lost. Aiden had no problem socializing with others even if he chose when to open his mouth or not, but he could recognize the look of someone with something on their mind as that was the look he often carried. The least he could do was but a nice person and listen if the boy chose to speak or leave if he truly wanted to get back to his assignment. As most boys his age Aiden figured that his mind was also on the dance and who would ask him, was he hoping for a girl to ask him or hoping that a certain one wouldn't. It wasn't something that he himself dwelled on as he probably wouldn't attend anyway.

Lysander smiled when Vaisey said that he was studying in the library. What else would he be doing indeed? Lysander could think of any number of things to do in the library that had nothing to do with studying. For example, he himself was in the library hiding out—separating himself from his peer group, so to speak.
Lysander frowned when Vaisey said that he looked lost. He felt lost, but it was hardly something that he could explain to a virtual stranger like Vaisey. He hadn't even really been able to explain it to Albus, and Albus knew he was gay and was his best friend. It just… it felt way too complicated.
"I'm thinking, yeah," Lysander agreed at last. "About this and that. Trust me, I welcome the distraction."
Anything was better than sitting alone mulling over the Sadie Hawkins dance, or the fact that he didn't know how to come out to his family, or the fact that he'd never have a boyfriend… He sighed, dragged his hand through his hair, and slumped back in his chair.
"What're you studying, anyway?" Lysander asked. "Anything good?"
It was a stupid question. When it came to studying, nothing was really good. If it had been something personal, he wouldn't have called it studying, he would have called it "research" or "pleasure reading" or "browsing." Regular studying was never really good, even if it was an interesting subject. If it was something you had to do, you were pretty much guaranteed to not want to do it.

To think that Aiden Vaisey of all people would be studying willingly was enough to suspect he was under some kind of curse such as the Imperius Curse and being forced to actually care. School was hardly his forte and really the only thing he'd had going for him for a long was Quidditch before that was thrown down the toilet. Working on a team and with others like that only sough to provoke his anger and cause issues. A few years ago he'd been kicked off the House Quidditch Team and after that he seemed to disappear into the background of students and his infamy. When Aiden had noted that Lysander looked lost he hadn't really expected any reaction except a small denial and then moving on in their little chat but his face told him most of what he needed to know. Just like young Aiden here there was something on this boy's mind but it could have been a number of things. At least he wasn't being thrown out of this boy's studyhing space, honestly that probably would have ticked him off a little as he was trying to be all nice and frienldy for once. He hardly had the charisma that Pucey had and he didn't get along with him either especially when they had played Quidditch.
School stuff? Girls? Whatever was on young teenagers' minds nowadays. It was certainly on his as exams were fast approaching and he had no exit plan out of Hogwarts and outside of that he just felt alone in general. People often had the assumption for those that were bisexual that they got more action or had relationships rampant but it really was much the same. Making the assumption that was welcome after all he took a chair at his small table and joined him for the moment, the isolation was nice in here. My favorite subject--hiding from the world. And staff and Prefects among other things. It was his symbolic way of avoiding the world and procrastinating. People never think to look for me here, so I can get some peace and quiet at least. not that he didn't mind conversing with Lysander. It was change of scenery and a much needed one.
