- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -It was a pretty nice day out and David was glad that he got a chance to get outside that wasn’t for Quidditch practice. That was in a couple of hours, after his last class of the day, and he decided that he would take a few to draw a bit in his sketchbook. He had slipped outside and settled himself on one of the stone benches that littered the courtyard and dropped his bag down on the grass by his feet. He bent over and unzipped it, pulling out his large sketchbook and a pencil, one that he kept strictly for his sketches and doodles.
He has been working on his most recent comic strip and he needed to get a few things finished for it. He had the whole thing planned out in his head, but he just needed to finish the last few scenes of it. He had decided to make this one about a werewolf that fell in love with a human who knows nothing about magic, werewolves or anything else. He thought it would be funny. He doesn’t usually make a series out of his comics, opting to do random ones instead. He may reuse some characters, but he tries to make up new ones.
He has been working on this current strip for a couple of days now, and he had another day or two to finish it. He liked to get at least one done a week, which he found somewhat difficult between all of his classes and then also his Quidditch responsibilities. He didn’t mind the extra work though, he loved drawing and his comic strips were one of his ways that he got out his frustrations. He had just finished one of the pictures and had only two left to go when the tip of his pencil broke. “Blast!” he said with a huff.
He went into his bag for either another pencil or a sharpener, neither of which was there. “Of course not,” he said grumpily as he sighed once more and then began to close up his book and put it back into his bag. He’d have to finish later, after class and Quidditch practice. He must have left his sharpener on his bed, which is where he was working on his sketches last, before now. As he had his head bent over his bag, he saw a shadow fall over him. Instinctively, he looked up to see who was now standing before him.

Nancy tapped her fingers on the table where she was sitting in the library as her eyes peered over the same sentence in her Potions book over and over and over again. She had been in the library for at least an hour and she really hadn’t gotten much done. Her stubbornness was really what was keeping her there. She had her day all planned out in the hopes of getting so much work done and she’d barely finished anything at all. With a sigh, she leaned back in her chair and rubbed her eyes, annoyed with herself and contemplating taking it out on the book. She narrowed her eyes and glared at the book as she folded her arms over her chest.
Aggravated, she tossed her Potions book back into her bag, which earned her a few glares from some Ravenclaws that were studying around her. She just rolled her eyes and slid her bag across her chest. Nancy usually treated her books with a lot of respect because she cared about keeping them in good condition, but she was rarely ever as irritated with her studies as she was on this particular day. So, her actions were justified…at least in her own mind.
Nancy hesitated after leaving the library. She really should head up to the Gryffindor common room – possibly take a nap so she would be rejuvenated for more studying. Pursing her lips, she glanced down the stairs and decided to head out to the grounds. As she left the castle, she realized that it was a beautiful day, which made her even more glad that she hadn’t gone back to the common room – she probably wouldn’t have been able to get much studying done anyway. Gryffindors could be really loud sometimes.
She began to cross the courtyard when she paused. There was someone already sitting in her favorite stone bench. Her annoyance was about to return when she realized that the student looked upset about something. She tilted her head to the side. It was either this or go back up to Gryffindor tower. “Hey! Mind if I join you?” she said, not really bothering to wait for his response before sitting down next to him,”Ooh, are you working on something?”

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -David had been so distracted by the fact that he did not have anything else to write with so that he could finish his comic that he didn't notice someone approaching him. He might have keen senses, something just about any Quidditch player ought to have, but he was, at times, oblivious to what was around him when he wasn't on the Quidditch pitch. It wasn't his fault really, but he was generally one of those people who preferred to be in the shadows. He was a friendly guy, don't be mistaken, but he was a shy guy as well, especially when it came to girls. And it was even worse with the girls he didn't know well, or that he liked.
As he started to pack up his stuff out of annoyance for not having another pencil or a sharpener, he was startled by a voice not too far from him asking if he minded them joining him. He could hear that the voice belonged to a girl and he looked up to see a rather pretty one heading his way. By the color of the patch on her robes, he could see that she was a Gryffindor, but he didn't actually know her so he felt himself grow a bit nervous in her presence. "Uh," he had started to say, but stopped because she had sat down on the bench he'd been sitting on anyway. "Sure,," he said as more of an afterthought.
She then asked if he was working on something and he nodded his head slowly. "Yeah, just working on my next comic strip," he told her. He wasn’t sure if she even knew what he was talking about. Most o the kids in the castle knew about them because they circulated throughout the castle on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. He incorporated many things into his comics when he did them, from class experiences to student interactions to even Quidditch matches. "But my pencil broke and I don't have another or a sharpener," he told her with a defeated tone. "W-what brings you out here today?" he asked nervously as he sat down beside her, though making sure there were a few inches between them. He didn't need to get even more nervous.

Nancy felt a little bad for not even waiting for the boy’s response before sitting down. Needless to say, she could be a little impatient from time to time. It was something that her older sister, Olivia, was constantly scolding her about – in the sweetest way possible, of course. An Olivia scolding was more of just a brief mention of what she didn’t like. She did a double take when she heard the quiet way that the boy agreed to let her sit next to him. “Sorry…I didn’t even wait for your response. Is this okay?” she asked, motioning between the two of them. She hoped he said yes. It would be terribly awkward to have to gather her things and walk away.
“A comic strip?” she asked, raising her eyebrows as she glanced down at his work again. She tilted her head to get a better look at the strip. This causing her red hair to fall into her face, so she swiftly tucked it behind both of her ears. The longer she looked at it, the more familiar it seemed. Yes, she’d definitely seen it somewhere before. “Oh!” she exclaimed, realizing that it was the comic series that had been circulating around the school. Nancy always snatched it up whenever she saw it because she always thought it was absolutely brilliant. “Oh my Merlin, you’re the creator of this thing? I’m so obsessed with it,” she said with a laugh as she pulled her gaze away from the strip to look at the Hufflepuff.
“Hmm…I think I might have something around in here somewhere…” she said, pulling her massive book bag into her lap,”Will just any pencil work? I think I might have a sharpener in here somewhere…” Nancy dabbled in her own artistic endeavors, though, she really didn’t think they were any good. It was possibly the only aspect of herself that she didn’t feel confident about. “Oh, I just didn’t feel like going back to the common room just yet. I was trying to do homework in the library and it just wasn’t working for some reason. Focus was is not my friend today,” she said with a laugh as she glanced back up at him.
