Joshua Michael BriarsonOne of these days you’re gonna love me. You’ll sit down by yourself and think about the time you turned from me and what good friends we might have been. And then you’re gonna sigh a little, and maybe even cry a little, but one of these days, you’re gonna love me.

His hair is black and kept neat. He has soft, delicate features, and his nose and lips are almost effeminate. Thick, dark eyebrows offset the appearance and cause him to look slightly more masculine. They frame eyes that are soft brown and almost sad-looking.
Josh takes care with his appearance. Unlike most boys his age—especially boys as athletic as Josh—he actually pays a fair amount of attention to fashion and his clothing choices reflect that. He likes bright colors and layers. However, despite the fact that he's careful about his clothing, he's not afraid to get dirty. His jeans have the trademark faded knees of a boy who spends most of his time playing outside.
Josh is a patchwork of cuts and scrapes from his adventures. He also spends a great deal of time outside and typically forgets sunscreen; the skin on his shoulders and back is in a near-perpetual state of peeling, the sensation of which Josh has mostly learned to ignore.
What make me unique; Josh is a highly independent young man. He hates being told what to do, and prefers relying on his own thoughts and instincts when it comes to things. He enjoys taking care of himself—he likes to cook and pick out his own clothes and schedules his own day—and he gets annoyed when other people try to tell him exactly where he needs to be at exactly what times without consulting him about it. When it comes to his life, Josh wants to be in charge, and he wants other people to respect the fact that he can make his own decisions.
He's a free-spirit. At the orphanage, he's known as a bit of a flight-risk because he takes off on a regular basis. Usually, however, when Josh takes off it's because he's bored with the strict schedule of the orphanage and annoyed with their interference in his life. He enjoys exploring the areas around the orphanage, and will typically slip out to look around. He does, however, tend to come back—usually whenever he starts getting too hungry.
Josh is hyperactive. He loves to be on the move, and he always wants to be doing something. He likes playing sports, but he also likes climbing things and nosing into things. He's a curious young man, bordering on nosy. He's also a thrill-seeker, and the more dangerous an activity is, the more likely Josh is to be interested in it. He's been known to climb up on the roof of the orphanage when no one was paying attention, and once at his friend's house he jumped from a trampoline into the pool several feet away. Josh will try anything once, and he enjoys having new and exciting challenges.
Josh hates to be shut in his room. Although he can handle small spaces on his own terms—if, for example, he's hiding while a prank of his executes—if he's forced to go in a small space he tends to panic, especially if it's something he doesn't feel like he can get out of. Being locked into a room is akin to torture to the boy; the second he hears the lock click in the door he starts to feel the walls closing in on him. Josh also hates sleeping indoors, and he's been known to climb out his window so he can sleep out in the grass.
He loves nature—everything to do with it, from the smell of plants to the sounds of animals—and if he could get away with being outside all the time he would. He's also not concerned with the weather: he has just as much fun outside in the snow and rain as he does in the sun.
Josh is a social butterfly. He genuinely likes people. He loves to talk and play games with other people, and he loves to make personal connections. However, Josh doesn't put up with stupid rules, and he's not afraid to be blunt or even rude if he thinks that someone is trying to control him about something stupid. "Because I said so" is Josh's least favorite combination of words, and you can pretty much guarantee that if any variation of that is said to him, he'll fight tooth and nail against the rule.
Josh can be incredibly stubborn. When he comes up with an opinion, he sticks to it, and he's good at sticking his heels in. He's worn many a caretaker down by sheer force of will. He doesn't care about impressing people, and even though he likes socializing he's not the type to trust others easily: he'll hang out with anyone for an afternoon, but he's cautious about who he becomes close friends with.
Josh hoards food. Even after years away from his mother’s house, Josh retains the fear that he will be without food. When food is available, he eats until he feels sick, and then he tucks food away in his pockets and hides it all over his room. At the orphanage, they’ve taken to monitoring what he eats because of this, which, far from helping the situation, has only served to make Josh feel less in control of the situation and more in need of taking control via hoarding.
[/size] Likes; Sleeping outside, climbing trees, exploring, adventures, pranking people, playing sports, make-believe, stand-up comedians, comic books, karaoke.
Dislikes;silence, being inside, sitting still, dumb rules, being told what to do, being talked down to, locks on doors, small spaces, being hungry, being babied.

Living the teenage dream,
Josh’s mother was a prostitute and drug addict living in Knockturn Alley. She slept with his father for drug money, and her pregnancy was inadvertent. Lydia wasn’t a heartless woman; she was a woman from the wrong sides of the tracks. When she found out that she was going to have a baby, she tried to get clean for him. The months that she was pregnant were the cleanest months Lydia had since her early teens, and Josh was born mostly healthy.
After Josh’s birth, Lydia suffered from heavy post-partum depression. She was low on money, having been out of work for most of the pregnancy, and she wascraving drugs and alcohol. She knew that she needed to find a way to make money while still taking care of Josh, but she couldn’t afford child care.
At first, she only left him alone at night when she hoped he’d be sleeping anyway. She locked him away in the basement of her tiny apartment so that no one would hurt him while she was gone, and she’d go out at night and turn tricks.
As Josh got older, his mom went out more often and for longer periods of time. She continued to lock him in the basement, as well as locking the outer door of the apartment. Josh was left downstairs with his bed and a bathroom and a few half-broken toys, and from a very young age he learned to take care of himself. When Lydia thought she’d only be gone for a couple of hours, that was all she left him: if she thought she’d be gone longer, she’d leave him with food. Sometimes, however, Lydia would miscalculate—she’d land an overnighter, or she’d get so high she couldn’t find her way home again—and in his young life Josh became used to the pangs of hunger. It was around this time that Josh started hoarding food wherever he could—in his backpack or under his bed—out of fear that his next meal wouldn’t come.
Then when Josh was eight years old, his mom didn’t come back. He was lucky that she had anticipated a bit of a stay away that time, for she’d brought the microwave down from the kitchen and had left him with packages of Ramen to heat up. Still, within a couple of days Josh ran out of the food she’d left him and had started to dig into the stash he’d hoarded away.
He ended up alone in the basement for nineteen days. When the landlord found him, he was out of food and slouched on the floor in weakness. He was taken to a foster home while the authorities tried to locate his mother; they found her later dead against the back dumpster of an apothecary, victim of an overdose.
Josh was placed in an orphanage for young magical children. He made friends with the other kids easily, but after his nineteen day spree locked in the basement without any fresh air, going inside made him nervous, and locked doors sent him into a total panic. His free-spirited nature started there, as Josh constantly tried to escape his fears and his past.
